Anyone use Solar City? I'm inclined to get their system, and I believe an existing customer can get a significant referral bonus if I name them.

We talked to them and they wanted to cut down ALL THE TREES EVAR. I was a bit taken aback and decided to punt it.

Yeah, I can imagine that could be a big problem. I think I'm spared from that concern, but we'll see what their consultant says.

I don't have a good mental image of the trees around your house, but basically they wanted to cut down any tree that ever shaded any part of the roof in any season or time of day.

So they were not willing to negotiate? You said "we want to keep some of these trees" and they said, "Then Bye"?

That's correct. To be fair, they have (or had at that time) a backlog and waiting list so it makes financial sense for them to work with clients who would simply do as they wanted. I also could not find a competent competitor who would give us a different alternative.

Also, "Then Bye" was a lot more words about shade and panel efficiency and so on. But it did amount to that.

(by "competent" I mean "has a decently informed human being who returns calls and can talk about choices")

We went with Sun Bug after (the solar committee did) a ton of work comparing and talking and such.

You might want to talk to [livejournal.com profile] penk, who's been keeping his finger on the pulse of the area solar business.
